Research
My broad research interest is to investigate how behavioral principles can positively impact health behaviors, especially in regards to health disparity issues. My research has focused on impulsive decision-making (within the framework of behavioral economics), and its relationship to treatment and relapse. I have examined impulsivity from the context of delay and probability discounting in samples of alcohol and drug abusing patients as well as pathological gamblers. My research interests also extend to the application of contingency management—an empirically-supported intervention that provides tangible reinforcement contingent on target behaviors—to promote abstinence from drugs and medication adherence, and to increase job-seeking activities and physical exercise.
